Description
When Barbara Jay put together a show featuring three female singers, to celebrate Ella Fitzgerald's 75th birthday, all she had in mind was a one-off concert at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. That was in 1993. But the show was a sell-out so they did it again and it soon took on a life of its own. Under the title 'The Ella Fitzgerald Songbook', it toured theatres, arts centres, festivals and clubs around the country for the next seven years. For most of that time the show starred Jay, Rosemary Squires and Maxine Daniels. This was the cast that recorded for Spotlite back in 1994. Now, Lee Gibson and Tina May have replaced Squires and Daniels, bringing their own distinctive styles to the music.
Consequently, 'The Ella Fitzgerald Songbook Revisited', recorded during 2000, is sure to bring this acclaimed programme to a new audience yet to hear this fantastic music.
