  • Description

The Italian pianist and composer Arturo Stalteri, known for his collaboration with Philip Glass and his adaptations of Brian Eno works, looks back at his long career with this album of solo piano reinterpretations, with some special guests.

"Spirit Of The Past narrates almost half a century of meetings...the 15 tracks included in this CD represent a real travel diary. Some pieces were included in my previous albums, but on this occasion I wanted to play them again, in a completely new versions. I am particularly happy, because this time some friends accompanied me with great enthusiasm. Going strictly in alphabetical order: Roberto Cacciapaglia, an artist with a bright sensitivity, gives the colours of the cosmos to the performance of third movement of his Sonanze suite. Carmine Capasso, a young guitarist plying in historic progressive band Trip, added his sitar in Lady Ligeia, the first theme that Gaio Chiocchio (with me in the progressive group Pierrot Lunaire in the '70s, and now is somewhere between Neverland and Heaven) played me on the piano. Grazia Di Michele, dazzling star of the songwriting, reinterprets Canzone per Daria (a song from her first LP to which I took part in 1978) rearranged for this project.

Fabio Liberatori, former Stadium band (now a member of the Royal Academy of Music), award-winning movie soundtrack composer (Carlo Verdone's a.o.), interpreted my Notturno in Do Minore with his amazing keyboards. Federica Torbidoni of the Nino Rota Ensemble, able with her flute to switch between Antonio Vivaldi and Philip Glass, appears in two pieces: On the nature of daylight by Max Richter and The quiet road to the sea. Antonello Venditti dialogued with me in his touching Figli del domani (a song he wrote in 1974, and which he played for me in a RCA studio, later included in the album Quando verrà Natale. You will find in the CD in addition to my compositions, music by Fryderyk Chopin, Philip Glass, Cat Stevens, the Rolling Stones and Rino Gaetano." - Arturo Stalteri
