Description
"I never imagined I'd write another song, let alone make another album but the timing feels right; in fact, the timing feels perfect!"
Alexis Strum releases her third album, 'Swim' through her brand-new label, Strum Records via Absolute Label Services and it's a real pop classic. Featuring her inimitable, deeply honest songwriting and witty pop hooks, it's a formidable return to form and an unbelievable return to music altogether for Alexis, a former songwriter for Kylie, Rachel Stevens and The Thrillseekers. It's an album brimming with electro beats, indie guitars (Strum by name, Strum by nature) and a whole lotta Glockenspiel.
Alexis describes her signature sound as "uplifting melancholy", citing Sam Fender, Kate Bush & Lady Gaga as her diverse musical influences. She's written and produced some of the tracks on 'Swim' by herself and co-written the rest with producer duo Shadowhands (aka former Infadels frontman Bnann and Gareth Young), Grammy-Award winning Stereophonics' producer Jim Lowe and Lady Gaga collaborator, Jonas Westling. Additional production comes from Welsh popstar, Bright Light Bright Light.
"Swim' features the singles, 'Karma', feisty banger, 'If You Think I'm Too Much (You Should Go Find Less) and title track, 'Swim', about Alexis's mum's struggle with Alzheimer's (forming part of an ongoing collaboration with Alzheimer's Society), as well as new single, 'Everybody', an anthem for single people everywhere in which Alexis admits, 'everybody's got somebody but me!'.
Stand-out tracks are 'Like The Other Girls' a Gigi Perez-inspired, largely acoustic song about being an outsider in a world full of Insta filters and the ballad, 'When The Good Goes Bad' soundtracking the end of a relationship. Alexis has never sung her heart out like this before and her voice is rich, mature and heartfelt. Her back story is fascinating and has gone viral many times- an artist who was previously signed to two major labels and never got the breaks she deserved but this time around, she's made an album on her own terms - an album which will find it's true place in pop history.
