Description
New piano transcriptions by Greek pianist Alexandra Papastefanou of various Cantatas, an Organ Sonata and a Chorale Prelude by JS Bach, all recorded here for the first time. The famous Myra Hess transcription of Bach's cantata Jesus bleibet meine Freude concludes a fascinating new look at some of Bach's choral and organ works.
Critical Acclaim:
"[Papastefanou] describes her take on Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Her as 'playing with Bach', and that's what she does: starting with a very fast running figure, she titles the tonality dangerously from side to side, setting melodies clashing with each other, and ending on an unapologetically triumphant jazz discord." – BBC Music Magazine (Performance 4 STARS; Recording 4 STARS)
"All in all, this is a fabulous album, wide-ranging in scope and mood, played with reverence and love for the music without resorting to indulgence. I am bowled over by her sense of colour and texture, with real clarity to the voicing; this is Bach playing of a high order." – MusicWeb International
