The Turbans are an international musical collective that combine traditional, Near-Eastern and Eastern-European styles with original compositions, to create modern and energetic performances that remain faithful to their ancient roots.
This extraordinary project has grown in just a few short years, from humble beginnings into a respected name on the London music scene. The group's members have come together from Turkey, Bulgaria, Israel, Iran, Greece and England, to perform in concerts and festivals across the UK, North America, The Middle-East, Hong Kong, India and Europe.
The Turbans debut album is the culmination of 7 years of playing, travelling, improvising, collaborating, and performing. In Spring 2016, 13 musicians gathered from 10 different countries with one aim: The Turbans debut album. The setting was Burnlaw, a 500 year-old farmhouse in rural Northumberland, inhabited by a thriving community who share The Turbans vision of unity in diversity. There they wrote and developed 30 songs which formed the basis of the this album.
Their new album takes the listener on a journey through the rhythm's, scales, melodies and languages which reflect The Turbans' musical journey, reflecting the characters of the many musicians in the band. Mixed by Grammy-award winner Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, Ali Farka Toure), the record capture the sensational musical talent of the members of The Turbans, and the unique sound they realize together.
