  • Description

Sudeshna Bhattacharya & Tanmoy Bose / Sangeet.

Sudeshna Bhattacharya is a maestro musician in the rich tradition of North Indian classical music. Her instrument is the sarod which she studied under one of the greatest sarod players in history, the legendary Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. On this recording, Sudeshna also plays the Mohan Vina, a modified sarod created by her father's guru and sarod player, Radhika Mohan Maitra in the 1940s.

Accompanying Sudeshna Bhattacharya throughout is Tanmoy Bose, one of the most well-known table players in the world. For many years he was the regular accompanist of Ravi Shankar.

Sangeet (the albums title) is a Sanskrit term for music. Classical Indian music has its root in meditation music and is referenced in the oldest Hindu scriptures. Classical Indian music has one of the most complex and complete music systems in the world. The different ragas are said to affect different parts of the body and mind.
