This project came about gradually, driven by suggestions from festivals and without the pressure of a recording commitment. When Raul received an email from Maria Mazzotta asking to collaborate, he had to decline due to his busy schedule, but he fell in love withher voice. A few years later, during a trip to Apulia in April 2022, they took the opportunity to meet and play together. During this meeting, Maria taught him many songs from the traditional repertoire of southern Italy. When the Classics festival in Barcelona commissioned Raul to write a piece about metamorphosis, he immediately thought of revisiting and reinterpreting the repertoire Maria had taught him in Apulia to explain how music can be an antidote and remedy for grief and transform us into other people.
