  • Description

Mohammad Gomar is the master of the Jozza, a fiddle-like instrument from Iraq, as well as a great interpreter of Iraqi maqam. Now living in exile in The Netherlands he is also the musical leader of the Iraqi Maqam Ensemble, who work alongside Farida, one of the greatest singers and interpreters of Iraqi musical folklore.
The sound of the jozza and the 'ud are combined with Sandip Bhattacharya's tabla and eastern instruments, such as the qanun and santour[played by members by The Iraqi Maqam Ensemble]. Jozza and jazz is a succesful blend of east and west, tradition and jazz and creates a symbolic dialogue between cultures through the universal language of music.
Tracks: Greetings From Kurdistan Mountains To The Marshes Of The South / Stages In The Audj Maqam / Dance On A Turkish Song / In Memory Of Al-Djordjina / Maqam Dasht / Improvisation On Al-Hleelawi Maqam / Reflections On An Iraqi Song.
