Description
Having risen to number 1 in the UK Heritage chart with 'My Sharona', Slade drummer Don Powell and his band have applied their talents to "I Am The Beat", another timeless pop anthem currently at #10 in the UK Heritage Chart. This has a classic big production treatment which makes its sing-along hook line unforgettable. It starts with the famous keyboard riff and ends with a great drum duet.
A most distinguished guest drummer and all-round good guy, Bev Bevan [ELO, Black Sabbath, The Move, Quill], plays alongside Don throughout the single. These guys have a great rapport and so killer drum parts are 100% guaranteed. The fade out features a lovely little drum 'battle'. Bev also features heavily in the official live promotion video.
The video was made in front of a live audience as a unique 'secret performance'. Tickets rapidly sold out within a few hours and the fans came from the UK and all over Europe.
The Don Powell Band re-unites musicians from Slade 2: vocalist Steve Whalley and bassist Craig Fenney, together with keyboard player Jon Bates.
Don says: 'I used to see The Look perform this and always wanted to give it my own treatment. With this band, I am now able to do it more than justice. I'm just knocked out by it! And I know the fans will really go for it.'
"I Am The Beat" is a Two Coats production. Two Coats is Craig Fenney and Jon Bates who have worked on many varied music productions, including 'My Sharona' and 'Let There Be Drums' for the Don Powell Band.
