JACK MONTGOMERY, like Al Wilson above, remained a mystery man on the Northern Soul scene for many years, despite having 4 releases on various labels.
However, when noted DJ and author, Dave Rimmer, interviewed Detroit producer Don Mancha the truth was finally revealed.
Montgomery's real name was Marvin Jones, a Detroit draughtsman with a good voice and ambitions to become a singer.
His first single was Don't Turn Your Back on Me, released on Mancha's own Barracuda label, before a deal was struck with the New York Scepter label for our two big-hitters Dearly Beloved and Do You Believe It.
Some early Scepter stock copies have the A-side as My Dear Beloved, probably a typesetting error; the official registered title is Dearly Beloved.
Montgomery's third release, Baby, Baby Take A Chance On Me was recorded at the same session as our Scepter sides.
