Description
The one thing most of these records have in common, and one which is hard to deny, is their debt to the sound of Fats Domino and his producer and co-writer Dave Bartholomew. "swamp pop" as it went on to be affectionately known, was popular in Louisiana, Texas and the neighbouring states and for the brief period encompassed by this compilation became a pop phenomenon breaking out into the American pop and R&B charts.
Jimmy Clanton and Rod Bernard are very much the epitome of the genre and tracks such as "Just a Dream" and "This Should Go On Forever" are great examples of the Louisiana rock and roll sound. And no swamp pop collection should be without Phil Phillips' million-selling Billboard smash, "Sea of Love" or the greatest of swamp pop hits "Mathilda" by Cookie and His Cupcakes.
This excellent collection from Jasmine is chock full with the who's who of the genre and is a must have for fans of early rock and roll.
