Description
This anthology of Bernard de Vienne's work is a musical portrait of the composer and demonstrates the diversity of the ensembles for which he writes. From his birth in Tunisia and his studies in ethnomusicology, he developed a keen sensitivity to all the world's music, and part of his output bears the mark of this. His interest in philosophy, literature, poetry and the sciences is evident throughout his works. His constant search for new ways of playing, and the pleasure he takes in playing his instrument (the flute), inspire him to compose colourful, imaginative and dynamic works.
With the exception of his Fourth Quartet, recorded for this box set, all the pieces on these two discs are live concert recordings and bear witness to his artistic affinities.
