Description
This double album brings to a conclusion the project Thomas Demenga began in 1986 when he undertook to record the cycle of Bach's Cello Suites, juxtaposing them with diverse expressions of contemporary music.Bringing Bach together with the Korean composer Isang Yun (1917-1995) and the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa (born 1955) is a particularly inspired gesture. The works of both Hosokawa and Yun explore the interpenetration of Eastern and Western musical thought, and Eastern philosophy. From the juxtapositions in this recording a great deal can be learned about the music of the world and one is reminded, yet again, of how modern" Bach is."
