Description
Recorded in Byron Bay, Australia in 2006, this is the first new album from The Skatalites since 2000. The studio sessions were held in the style of a classic jazz session, much like the 'one take' upbringing Studio One in Jamaica provided the group during its formative years in the 1960's.
The vibe of the Australian coastal island region had a definite influence on the creative flow of the recordings. Among a myriad of reissues and compilations, this album stands out as having the best new original material on a Skatalites album since the sixties.
The present day Skatalites are: Kevin Batchelor (trumpet), Lester 'Ska' Sterling (alto sax), Karl 'Cannonball' Bryan (tenor sax), Vin 'Don Drummond Jr' Gordon (trombone), Ken Stewart (keyboards), Devon James (guitar), Val Douglas (bass), Lloyd Knibb (drums), Doreen Shaffer (vocals).
