The acclaimed vocal group Ecstatic Ensemble was founded by Malena Ernman during the pandemic and has quickly established itself as one of the Nordic region's most exciting vocal ensembles. Their debut production, the concert film Ecstatic Ensemble Sings Early Music, was recorded at Stockholm Concert Hall and first streamed on Konserthuset Play before being broadcast by Swedish Television (SVT). With The Lost Music of Women, Ecstatic Ensemble takes the listener on a musical journey spanning more than three thousand years - from the world's oldest surviving notated music, dating from around 1400 BC, through medieval convents, the Viking Age, the Renaissance, the Baroque and Romantic eras, to the present day. Along the way, we encounter music by women whose voices have long been silenced or forgotten. The project is the result of several years of work by Malena Ernman, who has researched and rediscovered this remarkable repertoire and created new vocal arrangements of every work for Ecstatic Ensemble. Four of the album's tracks are also original compositions by Ernman herself.
