Description
Terrance Simien is one of a handful of current Zydeco artists to literally cross the parish line, exporting his music first to neighbouring Texas and then across the globe. In the process, Simien has taken on a range of new musical influences and has crossed artistic lines as well.
He naturally retains an intense pride in his Creole heritage that continues as the heartbeat of his music, but this is much more than Zydeco by the book. For starters there's a guest list that includes the likes of Marcia Ball, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, David Hidalgo and Paul Simon.
Danny Williams' production is breezy, but also ensures that the Cajun accordion/washboard combination leads the charge. The set is mostly uptempo with a number of originals mixed with songs from Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Taj Mahal, Robbie Robertson and Zydeco legend Clifton Chenier.
