Description
Re-reissue of the musical 'Hannah...1939', a lesser known work in the canon of the great songwriter and composer Bob Merrill.
Merrill started his long and extensive career, by penning some of the great standards and novelty hits of the 1950's, such as "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window", "Mambo Italiano" and "Love Makes The World Go Round". When moving into writing for Broadway, he had success with the shows 'New Girl In Town', 'Carnival' and 'The Red Shoes' but is probably best known for 'Funny Girl' which made Barbara Streisand an International star.
'Hannah...1939', a later work, was to mark a return to the New York stage for Bob Merrill, and his second collaboration with The Vineyard Theatre. Both a powerful indictment of complicity in the face of evil and a moving and bittersweet story of one woman's remarkable journey through life in the face of the oppression of her society and the shadow of the oncoming war. 'Hannah...1939' represented what was sadly to be the last work of this noted composer, but it was to be a musical and emotional tour de force that was received with great acclaim.
