Description
Joshua Abrams' highly acclaimed compositions are a fascinating nexus of ideas from non-western traditional musics, minimalism and jazz designed to catalyze his musicians toward a single group-mind organism of sound. He is well-known for exploring new contexts for the guimbri, the three-stringed North African bass lute. For the past two decades he has been a luminous fixture in the America jazz and underground scenes and in addition to his ground breaking albums with his own group Natural Information Society, he has recorded with Town & Country, Tortoise, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Matana Roberts and many more.
"Abrams makes music that falls between genres. There are hints of jazz, rock, raga, and many cultural musics, but it all feels singular."
Marc Masters - Pitchfork
"It's patient, layered music that's always heading somewhere, sometimes spare and sometimes complex and shimmering."
Ben Ratliff - New York Times
