Description
This is the latest CD in a series of recordings by Tactus of the complete works of Marco Enrico Bossi, which are being released to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth. Bossi lived around the time of the turn of the 20th century and was a celebrated organist. Although he wrote most of his music for the organ he also composed some delightful chamber music including the pieces for cello and piano, and violin and piano, featured on this disc.
Although Marco Enrico Bossi's chamber music is mostly inspired by that of Johannes Brahms and composers of the German "Late Romantic" period, later works like the "Santa Caterina da Siena - Little Poem for Violin and Piano", which was written in 1924 a few months prior to his death, are very evocative and often recall the soft fluidity of the sound world of Debussy and Ravel. The "Little Poem" is divided in seven parts and goes through the most important episodes in the life of Saint Caterina culminating in her triumphal ascent into heaven.
Personnel: Roberto Noferini (violin), Andrea Noferini (cello), Giulio Giurato (piano)
