Description
Rolling Down A Mountainside was released in 1975, two years after the Jacqueline Hilliard/Leon Ware song was both originally recorded by Third Creation at Motown and covered by Isaac Hayes at Stax.
All three versions are so distinctive and soul fans over the years have deliberated over which is the best, but regardless the unique vocals of Cuba Gooding combined with the arrangement, musicianship, production and social message makes The Main Ingredients version among their most original and memorable recordings.
That Ain't My Style has a break, much sampled in the hip hop community by artists including The 411, Boxi, Freundeskreis, Ultramagnetic Foundation, D.V. Alias Khrist, and a remix of Tyrone (Ain't My Style) by Erykah Badu.
Music Maximus from 1976 came with more from Hilliard & Ware, this time with The Main Ingredients take on Instant Love). Leon Ware featuring Minnie Riperton recorded the original Instant Love the same year for his Motown debut album, Musical Massage. The Main Ingredient version was also sampled by Camron featuring DMX on Doin Me, while the album also has further breaks sampled from songs Car of Love by Jay Z, and Half A Chance by Little Brother featuring Supastition.
