    For Arne 'Papa' Bue Jensen's 80th birthday, his label Storyville is giving him a very special present: a 4 CD box set with 80 tracks on 4 CDs. The first recordings date back to 1954, with the Bohana Jazzband. Two years later, Bue Jensen founded 'Papa Bue's New Orleans Jazz Band', which shortly afterwards became 'Papa Bue's Viking Jazz Band', a name that still exists today. To this day, the name stands for noble, swinging Dixieland and New Orleans jazz.

    All recordings were produced in Copenhagen, with the oldest ones with the Bohana Jazzband reflecting the technical standard of the 1950s. Papa Bue was undoubtedly very commercially oriented, but perhaps precisely because of this audience-oriented style of playing, he contributed a great deal to the preservation of traditional jazz and its Dixie revival variant. The bandleader also attached great importance to the swinging and nostalgic sound of his Vikings, despite a number of personnel changes. The fact that he kept this up consistently over the decades is demonstrated by this box.
