Description
Today she is widely regarded as the top female interpreter and authority on traditional country blues worldwide." — The Blues Foundation
Rory Block is the most acclaimed female acoustic blues artist, with over 200,000 US scans for her releases.
This is the latest project in Block's "Mentor Series" in which she pays homage to the blues artists that shaped her inimitable style.
Rory pays tribute to the legendary blues/folk/gospel artist Rev. Gary Davis who she met in NY while accompaning Stefan Grossman to guitar lessons. Songs written by Rev. Davis have been recorded by hundreds of artists including The Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna and Mavis Staples.
Rory actively tours internationally and each new CD is a high profile occasion in the blues community.
The liner notes contain excerpts from Block's autobiography, When A Woman Gets The Blues, in which she recalls sitting in on some guitar lessons with Grossman, and a time when Davis made the arduous climb up to visit their apartment.
