Steve Lane's Famous Souther Stompers, Steve Lane's Red Hot Peppers
Description
Steve Lane's role in British Traditional Jazz belies the perception of him. He formed his first band in the late 1940s and continued to lead one into the 2000s. He specialised in the Classic Jazz of the King Oliver/Jelly Roll Morton era of the 1920s and never turned professional. Alongside all of that many leading players passed through the ranks of his band many of today's professionals like Bob Hunt, Martin Litton, John Wurr, Paul Harrison. Steve was also the driving force behind VJM Records.
The tracks on this CD come from recordings made for the VJM label by three of Steve's bands: The Famous Southern Stompers, The Red Hot Peppers and The VJM Washboard Band. This is hot Classic Jazz played by seasoned specialist players.
