Tony Award winning actress and singer Dolores Gray is rightly considered one of the most iconic theatre performers of the 20th Century. Lauded for her many roles on both the Broadway and West End stage, her career achieved equal success in cabaret, on film and in the recording studio. Dolores Gray was signed to Decca Records from 1951 to 1955, releasing countless singles for the label and scoring chart success.
This collection compiles all Dolores Gray's single releases for the Decca label issued between 1953 and 1955. Serving as a companion release to Sepia Records excellent compilation 'Spotlight on Dolores Gray' (featuring Dolores Gray's Decca releases from 1951-52), 'Heat Wave' completes Dolores' work for the Decca label with most tracks making their debut on CD.
Highlights from the release include the popular singles 'Big Mamou' and 'Kaw-Liga' plus pop cover versions of songs from the Broadway musicals 'By the Beautiful Sea', 'The Girl in Pink Tights' and 'Silk Stockings'. Also included is Dolores' recording of 'The Call of the Far-Away Hills' from the 1953 Western film 'Shane' plus the songs she recorded for the Decca album of 'There's No Business Like Show Business'.
