The film soundtrack to Marcel Camus' influential 1959 film Black Orpheus, co-written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa, with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes & Antonio Maria.
Black Orpheus is based on the playOrfeu da Conceicaoby Vinicius de Moraes, inspired and set to theclassic Greek mythology ofOrpheus and Eurydice,but setin a contemporary Brazilian favela(slum) duringthe Rio de Janeiro Carnaval. Thefilm and its soundtrack were the signposts by which the world first learned of samba and bossa nova.

Among the musicians heard here are Luiz Bonfa and Roberto Menescal on guitar, as well as the vocals of Elizeth Cardoso and Agostinho dos Santos.
Includes the classic songs "Manha de Carnaval" and "Samba de Orpheus."
Three songs from the film recorded shortly after by the great Joao Gilberto and released as a 7" EP have been added as a bonus: 'Manha de Carnaval' / 'O Nosso Amor / A Felicidade' .
