The American organist Mark Steinbach travelled to France in 2022 to discover the most suitable organ for recording Messiaen's cycle La Nativite du Seigneur and found what he was looking for in Lyon.
The Cavaille-Coll instrument there is roughly the same size and character as the Cavaille-Coll organ that Messiaen had at his disposal in the Eglise de la Trinite in Paris in the 1930s. This allows the music to be performed with the greatest possible authenticity.
Incidentally, it is also the first recording of Messiaen's organ works in surround sound.
