Description
Andreas Haefliger continues his captivating and thought-provoking Perspectives series with the sixth volume, juxtaposing Beethoven's Piano Sonatas Nos. 10 and 30, with seldom-heard miniatures by Berio, and Schumann's great Fantasy in C.
On 'Perspectives 6' Andreas Haefliger juxtaposes the Piano Sonatas of Beethoven with other composers, casting an enlightening glow on the works which one would not detect if played in isolation. Themes of humanity, nature and love run through a programme emphatically to be listened to rather than analysed intellectually. Haefliger opens with Beethoven's early Piano Sonata No. 10, Op. 14, then segues into two of Berio's seldom heard encores, Erdenklavier and Wasserklavier. He emerges to perform Beethoven's late Piano Sonata No. 30, Op. 109, followed by two more miniatures by Berio, Luftklavier and Feuerklavier. The album culminates with Schumann's Fantasy in C major.

Critical acclaim for Andreas Haefliger:
"Haefliger delivers an interpretation [of Brahms' Sonata No. 2] of formidable granitic strength that nonetheless manages to encapsulate the work's more introspective and poetic aspects." - BBC Music Magazine, Disc of the Month (on Perspectives 4)
"Solid virtuosity and serious, thoughtful musicianship...a happy fusion of drama, cumulative sweep and textural clarity." - Gramophone (on Perspectives 3)
