Description
Quartet recording made by the Italian musicians guitarist Massimo Bognetti, saxophonist Errico De Fabritiis, bassist Fabio Fochesato and drummer Adriano Galinari.
Oprachina is a neologism made up of the two words opra (opera) and china (bowed), meaning alienating, back-breaking work. Coined in the first half of the 20th century, the term features in the Italian version of the "Internationale" as well as other tracts of the period. Oprachina are committed to the continuous pursuit of an equilibrium between written passages and free improvisation, helping to develop a contemporary musical language.
Their first creation, 'The Jazz Farm' (2007), published under the Creative Commons licence, was hailed at the 2009 Cannes Midem as the most popular Italian album by the Jamendo portal (with over 40K downloads). In 2010 critic Giordano Selini included Oprachina among the top ten bands in Italian jazz.
Massimo Bognetti: electric, acoustic and synth guitar
Errico De Fabritiis: tenor saxophone
Fabio Fochesato: bass
Adriano Galinari: drums
"Errico's "Le Cose Non Sempre..." is a powerful jazz/rock piece with tight, intricate twists and turns. Bassist Fabio plays furiously while the tenor sax and guitar wail together. "Fat Fast" is electric jazz at its best with an impressive fast and fully articulated solo from their guitarist and smokin' tenor solo as well. I dig the "Sixa" shifts between slow, sly sections, short stops and tight guitar and sax harmonized lines, all going back& forth. Although a few of these pieces are laid back, the splendid, crafty playing from all four musicians remains inspired throughout. The next to last song is a sublime ballad duo for soft guitar and fretless bass." - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery
