Simon Spillett is a multi award-winning English hard bop tenor saxophonist. He leads aquartet of bona fide jazz royalty and is firmly established as a leading light of the UK grassroots jazz scene. Square One is Spillett's Gearbox Records debut and his first recordingsince 2007's "Sienna Red", Jazz Journal's CD Of The Year. It's a straight ahead session featuring a new Spillett original and choice repertoire by Jimmy Deuchar, Dizzy Gillespie, Cole Porter and Dizzy Reece.
The album was recorded live in the studio direct to stereotape, mastered 'all-analogue' at Gearbox and manufactured as an audiophile quality180gm Vinyl LP. -
