Description
Singer, composer and Hardanger fiddle player Sigrid Moldestad is a proud caretaker of traditional Norwegian folk music, which she deploys uniquely into contemporary styles and genres ranging from bluegrass, rock and blues. These qualities made her Norwegian folk singer of the year 2010, and she is by far one of Norway's most popular and requested folk artists. Not only recognized for the quality of her writing, singing and fiddle playing, her brilliance is also acknowledged in her communicative skills as a performer on stage.
'Himelen Har Sove Bort Mørkret' (Heaven Has Slept Away The Dark) is Sigrid Moldestad third solo album and features a team of folk-blues-rock friends on an array of instruments ranging from guitar, viola, sitar banjo, harmonium, Wurlitzer, Rhodes piano, trumpet, clarinet, drums and bass. Of the 13 tracks, 9 are Sigrid originals and the remainder arrangements of traditional themes, including one piece set to the text of Robert Burns' poem "As I Was Wandering" ("Då eg gjekk og rusla"). Highlights include the aforementioned track, the two instrumental tracks "Sondagsblå" and "Englesong", and the joyously amusing "Esten ass Ans".
