Description
These 23 stereo tracks by heart-throb actor and singer Tommy Sands are appearing on CD for the first time. In the late 1950s Sands was Capitol's answer to Elvis Presley and for a time his popularity was second only to the King in the U.S.
Of all the recording stars to emerge in the early days of rock and roll, one of the most talented yet least-appreciated was actor/singer Tommy Sands. He shot to fame as Capitol's answer to Elvis Presley in the film "Sing Boy Sing" and for a time only Elvis was more popular in the U.S. After winning over the teenagers, Capitol Records, in an attempt to corner the albums and adult market, paired Sands with their No. 1 arranger Nelson Riddle and these 23 sophisticated tracks are a result of their collaboration, all appearing on CD for the first time. Sands went on to make films such as "Mardi Gras", "Babes in Toyland" and "The Longest Day".
