  • Description

Two of the best albums by Eddie Sauter and Bill Finegan, two of the Swing Era's most innovative and idealistic arrangers on one set - 'The Return of the Doodletown Fifers' (1960) and 'Pop Concert' (1961).

Sauter and Finegan ran their own orchestra in the early 1950s and by 1953 Time magazine had declared them as "the most original band heard in the U.S. in years." These brilliant, stereo recordings of two of their best albums, 'The Return of the Doodletown Fifers' and 'Pop Concert', made in 1960 and 1961, respectively, show on CD more clearly and convincingly than ever what a unique orchestral combination the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra was. Naturally, included is the tune most people associate them with, "Doodletown Fifers", adapted from a Civil War song. Also included is "Doodletown Races", based on De Camptown Races composed in 1850 by Stephen Foster.
