Description
Members of Void Rot, Suffering Hour, and Aberration come together in Ritual Ascension, a horrendous sonic desecration decomposing death metal into a subsonic, hallucinatory miasma, and deforming it into a hideous disfigurement of its former self. Devoured in dissonance and shrouded in catacombal atmospheres, the band's putrid debut full-length monstrosity "Profanation of the Adamic Covenant" takes the masterful death-doom horror of early Temple Nightside and of Grave Upheaval, and transfigures it further into the darkest abysses of surrealism. With no discernible shape or form, the album presents itself in a manner akin to a surreal or experimental horror film, leaving the listener alone to its own devices to wander a disfigured subterranean hellscape devoid of any logic while they grapple with the complete uselessness and helplessness of their own senses. Polar extremes dominate the work, from death-scarred slowness akin to an aeonic entombment, to spasmodically frantic bursts of wrathful disturbances, working unison to unfold a sensorial labyrinth in front of the listener where every corner and turn can just reveal a starting point, instigating absolute madness and insanity. Lightless trudges into abyssal depths seem to pave the way to an illusory safety, only to reveal recursive descents into dead ends which lead nowhere making the suffocation into madness both immanent and inescapable. All while the earth within these aphotic labyrinthine sepulchers of naught is cyclically shaken by tectonic upheavals of unknown origin that reveal the immense powers and presences that dwell within the darkest crevices of imagination. An imagination wielded by Ritual Ascension with unseen mastery and ambition to create a truly unparalleled work of deviant sonic art and an unrivaled avantgarde death metal masterwork.
