Description
After a new Negativa album in 2022 and a new Hasslig album in 2024, recluse Spanish black metal shapeshifter D.B. reappears under its third dissimulation, Delirant, presenting the entity's second full-length album "Thoughteater", the first spasm of new material since the project's self-titled debut album released in 2018 by Mystiskaos. This second assault on the human psyche sees Delirant take a step sideways and tread more cryptic and enigmatic realms than its predecessor, extending its cruel projection inward, deeper into subconscious depths and farther into the ravaged spoils of perception. Twisted into a dreadful auditory contortion, "Thoughteater" metastasizes as an abysmal beast shrouded in dissonance, soon revealing its horrendous design as a mind weapon, without ever assuming a recognizable form. The album's name is revelatory to its scope and mission as a gnarled auditory experiment in psychological warfare. Unexplainable chord progressions, miasmatic atmospherics and gnarled rhythmic pulses are woven into a formulaic key to the mind's most abandoned and vulnerable states, which is then sonically preyed upon. Hypnagogic and oneiric states, sub and unconscious states of cognition, lucid dreaming, hallucinations, nightmares and all deeper states of cognition are thus used as gateways to mind predation, with the music presented in as shapeless and indiscernible forms as possible as to achieve its undetected mission of stealth mind destroyer. While the work's intents may seem nefarious, they hide a cathartic pilgrimage to seek the light through darkness, overcoming fear and doubt, anxiety and panic, and freeing the self from subconscious mind imprisonment. At the same time its ambitious yet enigmatic design has yielded one of the most abstract and hermetic black metal works to date. One which has to mislead and deceive in order to be experienced, thus diverging from any traditionalism and assuming truly surreal and disembodied forms, akin to other similar extreme metal mind weapons conceived by avantagarde explorers of irreality like Abigor, Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega and Leviathan.
