  • Description

Skillfully blending traditional material and unique covers with her own beautifully crafted songs, Ruth Notman is poised to set the folk world ablaze with this stunning and eagerly anticipated debut album.

Her pure and powerful voice, quirky piano melody and beautifully picked guitar are joined on the album by evocative cello from Hannah Edmonds, driving rhythm and sensitive backing from Saul Rose (Waterson:Carthy, Whapweasel) on melodeon and other guest musicians including Roger Wilson (Wood:Wilson:Carthy) on fiddle, and stunning harmony singing from Bella Hardy.

High quality production of a hugely varied repertoire makes this album something quite different from the norm. Simple stripped down English ballads and epic sweeping arrangements are all tied together by the power and passion of Ruth's vocals, whose youthful approach to the material is often forgotten through the maturity of her delivery.

This ability to perform songs with such emotion and skill has led to recognition within the folk scene, particularly as a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards 2007. In a recent interview, Kate Rusby was asked about the state of the current folk scene: "I heard a girl recently called Ruth Notman," she commented, " I thought she was fantastic, really special."

Now discover for yourself and be there at the start with this startling new talent.
