Description
The tradition of the great mid-20th Century jazz and R&B saxophonists such as Red Prysock, Rusty Bryant, Louis Jordan, Earl Bostic, Illinois Jacquet, Arnett Cobb and Gene Ammons has all but vanished.
All, but not quite. One man who's influences are firmly rooted in this tradition is Nashville born saxophonist Rickey Woodard.
His infectious, full-bodied swinging style reflects influences which have in the main been passed over by the current crop of reed players.
A young veteran of the Ray Charles Band, Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra and much more besides, Rickey has honed his craft through a myriad of festivals, tours and one-nighters around the globe.
The programme on California Cooking 2 reflects some of his currentrepertoire in a potent mix of standards and originals. -
