    Jean L'heritier was one of the leading composers of the generation between Josquin and Palestrina, yet his music is rarely heard today. This recording traces the range of his achievement, from motets for four to nine voices to his single surviving Mass, revealing a composer whose command of counterpoint and response to text shaped the development of the Roman motet in the early sixteenth century. Performed by The Choir of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge under David Skinner, these works place L'heritier in the company of the finest musicians of his age. They also restore to view a distinctive voice whose influence extended well beyond his own lifetime.
