Description
An imaginary soundtrack for Bodas de Sangre by Federico Garcia Lorca, this is Paolo Angeli combining his extraordinary prepared Sardinian guitar with electronics, flamenco guitar and, occasionally, voice in a series of vignettes and fluid passages imbued with classical and folkloric references. It's a sound world that Paulo invented and has extended and rung the changes on over many albums. Those following will be glad to add this new chapter. Born in 1970, Paolo started to play guitar when he was 9, finally evolving his highly customised version of the Sardinian prepared-guitar: an 18 string orchestra hybrid guitar, baritone, cello, drums, with various added hammers, pedals and varispeed propellers. He has a degree in Ethnomusicology and as a researcher, has published a critical volume of historical analyses of the 'Canto a Chitarra', which includes 4 CDs of recordings made between 1930 and 1967. He is artistic co-director of Isole che parlano, an international arts festival in Palau, and performs regularly in Europe, America, Canada, Russia and Brasil, both alone and with collaborators - including Pat Metheny, Fred Frith, Jon Rose, Otomo Yoshide, Antonello Salis, Hamid Drake, Evan Parker, Ned Rothemberg, Takumi Fukushima, Zeena Parkins, Nuno Rebelo, Lukas Simonis, Andy Ex, Verian Weston, Robert Dick, Lukas Ligeti, Audrey Chen, Janet Fader and Camel Zekri.
