  • Description

Originally issued as a limited edition, gatefold 2-LP package, Northern Spy Records and East Meets West Music are now releasing Ravi Shankarr's 'In Hollywood 1971' as a 2-CD set in a gatefold wallet. The CD version presents the previously unheard, two hour concert in its entirety, over an hour of material not featured on the vinyl edition!

Pandit Ravi Shankar was a sitar master and pioneer; widely credited with popularizing sitar and Indian classical music in the West. Through his association with George Harrison, he also popularized the benefit concert with Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Earlier that same year, Ravi Shankar performed a morning concert in his home on Highland Avenue in Hollywood, California with Harrison in attendance. As Ravi's wife, Sukanya Shankar, attests in her amazing liner notes, this concert most certainly sowed the seed for the overwhelmingly successful Concert for Bangladesh.

These four Ragas are beautifully recorded, and they sound phenomenal after tape transfer, audio restoration, and mastering by Barry Phillips.
