  • Description

Deluxe reissue of Croatian guitarist Ratko Zjaca's 2009 album Continental Talk featuring jazz luminaries John Patitucci, Steve Gadd, Stanislav Mitrovic and Randy Brecker. This limited edition audiophile 2LP set has been newly mixed and remastered, it's handsigned by artist, handnumbered and limited to 999 copies.

Surpassing boundaries, building bridges, bringing people together. It is clear from the biography and discography of the brilliant Croatian guitarist, Ratko Zjaca, that he is very much driven by these concepts. The decision to realise this project came about when he was on a plane with his friend and saxophone player, Stanislav Mitrovic. "It was a case of small talk above the clouds, between America and Europe. Which is the reason the album is called Continental Talk." It was born out of a simple idea: to bring together musicians Ratko admired deeply and let the music unfold through conversation rather than instruction. He says: "This was extremely simple, considering the line-up. An almost natural process, an organic symbiosis".

This symbiosis continued during the session. Zjaca, Brecker, Patitucci, Mitrovic and Gadd merely had to look at each other, giving a short nod, and the creative energy poured forth like a lava stream. Only one take was required for each one of the twelve titles. Those sessions took place at the legendary Power Station in New York City, a studio whose walls have absorbed decades of musical history. Walking into that room carried a certain weight but also a sense of possibility. The space itself encourages honesty, it captures nuance, dynamics and feel in a way that invites musicians to play truthfully rather than carefully.

This first ever vinyl release offers a new perspective on that moment in time. For this special edition, the album has been newly remixed and remastered, revealing fresh depth, clarity and warmth while honoring the original spirit of the recording.
