Description
A leading band on Scotland's vibrant folk scene, the Rachel Hair Trio presents a sparkling blend of melodic harp mastery, rootsy songs and sophisticated rhythmical drive.
The Rachel Hair Trio follows up its Scottish Folk Band of the Year nomination in the Scots Trad Music Awards 2011 with an outstanding new album.
Featuring traditional and contemporary dance tunes, airs and songs from Scotland, Galicia, Sweden, Brittany, Wales, Devon and the U.S., No More Wings is Hair's third album and the first release by her group, which has spent much of the past year touring at home and abroad to enthusiastic acclaim.
As well as highlighting the group's collective gift for dynamic arrangements, instrumentals such as the title track, The Eccentric Emporium and The Birthday Jigs focus on Hair's facility on the Scottish harp and her ability as a composer to conjure up instantly memorable melodies from unlikely sources, including jumble sale rummages and unconventional birthday presents.
Guitarist Jenn Butterworth lends her distinctive, heartfelt singing to Cyril Tawney's classic Grey Funnel Line, Jesse Winchester's My Songbird and her own yearning Island, and double bassist Euan Burton brings backbone and drive to a group that formed in 2010[?] and has quickly positioned itself among the pacesetters on the vibrant Scottish folk scene.
