Description
From the time he blew into the Big Apple in the '50s until his tragic death in 1971, King Curtis dominated the New York R&B studio scene with his tough Texas tenor and occasional alto and soprano saxophone work. This quintessential release presents two of Curtis' finest LPs: Trouble in Mind (his only recordings as a blues singer) and It's Party Time.
Both albums were originally issued by the Tru-Sound label in 1961, and have been remastered and packaged together in this very special collector's edition, which also includes 4 bonus tracks from the same period. All of these great tracks - recorded by the legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder - feature a virtual who's who of fabulous musicians from the New York City scene, including Sam "The Man" Taylor, Al Casey, Paul Griffin, Ernie Hayes, Belton Evans, and three former Raelettes as backing vocalists (who billed themselves as The Cookies), among others.
