The year 1984 was a memorable and exceptionally successful year for Golden Earring. When the Lady Smiles was released in early February and reached number 1, partly thanks to Dick Maas's controversial video, which can be admired in its original version on this DVD. As can the three other historic Dick Maas - Golden Earring videos, for that matter. More original and better videos have never been made in the Netherlands. On 3 March, the album N.E.W.S. was released (including "When the Lady Smiles"). That album also reached number 1 and remained in the album charts for 18 weeks. And on 7 March, Golden Earring embarked on its 11th (!) - and, in hindsight, last - American tour of 38 shows, which took the group as far as Hawaii. The first three weeks of June - back in Holland - were spent on holiday, and on 23 June the new tour through the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany began, with the legendary Back Home concert in the Groenoordhallen in Leiden. Dick Maas directed the video recordings. The show was broadcast in America on the then fledgling MTV, and was also released on video (tape). And now, finally, on DVD, the Back Home concert 1984, also known as 'Live from the Twilight Zone'.
