Description
Stars On 45 is one of the major global hits of the 1980s, featuring medleys of hits by the world's biggest artists and bands, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, ABBA and Stevie Wonder. The first Stars On 45 single sold more than 5 million copies worldwide and reached the top of the charts in many countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In England, the single reached second place and eventually reached number 1 on the American Billboard Hot 100 on 20 June 1981. The project originated in the summer of 1980, when label boss Willem van Kooten heard a Canadian 12" single featuring a medley and disco version of a series of hits from the 1960s and 1970s. This included Venus by Shocking Blue, to which Van Kooten owned the rights. And because this maxi single was released illegally, he had not given permission for its use. He then called producer and former Golden Earrings drummer Jaap Eggermont and asked him if that "bootleg" could be remade - this time with all rights properly paid. The recordings resulted in two singles and two albums as Stars On 45, followed by a single and LP by The Superstars in 1982. This 40 Years Anthology double CD has been remastered from the original first-generation Soundpush Studio master tapes and collects the most important work of Stars On 45. -
