Description
It's been a whirlwind 10 years for Derek Ryan: after touring the world, releasing chart-hits year after year, and achieving ten best-selling studio albums (with his last award-winning album aptly named TEN) - 2019 seems to be the right year for Derek Ryan to release a collection of his number 1 hits and fans-favourite songs that have made the singer- songwriter one of the biggest names in the Irish country music scene.
10 years, 10 albums – it's a wonder how Derek Ryan could choose only 21 tracks from his illustrious and expansive back catalogue of hits. However, fans will be delighted to know many of Derek's classic songs will feature on the record: from the original, self-penned 'God's Plan', to arguably Derek's biggest hit 'Hold On To Your Hat', featuring the
internationally acclaimed musician Sharon Shannon. Newer songs such as 'Down On Your Uppers' and the duet single 'Honey Honey' with Lisa McHugh are also included, highlighting the hits old and new, which have firmly cemented the Carlow singer's position at the top table of Irish country music's elite, as the name 'Derek Ryan' continues to propel to new heights.
Considering his hectic schedule this year alone, which included sold-out tours in both Ireland and Scotland, festival appearances in France and Denmark, a headline slot at the SSE Arena and a number of Summer Festival top-bill sets, Derek's relentless creative streak remained true to the singer's heart. Time in the recording studio was still a priority, with Derek recording his new single 'Only Getting Started' with Cliona Hagan and the bonus track on the Hits album – 'If You're Gonna Be Bad (Be
Good At It)'.
Having been the multi-recipient of awards including 'Songwriter of the Year', 'Album of the Year' and 'Entertainer of the Year', Derek's talent to immerse his audience into the Irish-Country lifestyle and community, through his music, is evident with the plethora of artists over the years who have recorded his songs.
These include Daniel O Donnell, Foster and Allen, Philomena Begley, Jimmy Buckley and Johnny Brady to name only a few, underlining the industry wide admiration for Derek
Ryan's credible songwriting talents.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would get to this point in my career – releasing my very own 'Hits' album" exclaims Derek. "I've seen many of my favourite artists release a collection of their biggest songs, and I am very very proud of the 21 tracks featured on this record. I am indebted to my fans for making these songs the hits they were, and I'm really hoping people will like the carefully chosen selection on this album".
Derek added, "I want to dedicate this to my fans all over the world who have supported me, whether it's been from the beginning of my career, or to the present day – this album is for them".
Following on from the phenomenal success of his recent TEN tour, the New Year will see Derek head back on the road for 'The Hits' concert tour 2020. Promised to be his most exciting concert show yet, Derek and his band will visit venues across Ireland from the end of January to the beginning of March, bringing along an array of special guests: Cliona Hagan, Niamh McGlinchey, Olivia Douglas, Tony Allen (from Foster & Allen) and The Tumbling Paddies. Derek will then bring the concert tour to the UK and finish up in Scotland.
Derek Ryan's brand new album 'The Hits' is released on Friday 15th November from Sharpe Music.
