Description
Brinsley Schwarz were a British country-pub rock band who recorded six albums between 1969 and 1975. Stylistically, they were heavily influenced by the American country rock band Eggs Over Easy, making them the forefathers of the British pub rock movement. In addition to the country influences, pub rock was musically a throwback to the 1960s, when the beat and R&B music wave created a vibrant nationwide live music club scene. Besides Brinsley Schwarz, bands like Dr. Feelgood, Kilburn & The Highrods, Joe Strummer's 101'ers, Starry Eyed And Laughing, Ace or Ducks Deluxe took the stages of pubs and clubs in the UK by storm.
On March 6, 1975, Brinsley Schwarz played a one-hour set for the Rockpalast in Studio L of the WDR in Cologne. According to the band's chroniclers, the five musicians then went their separate ways: Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm pursued solo careers and eventually had more success with other bands (Nick Lowe with Dave Edmunds in Rockpile), Brinsley Schwarz and Bob Andrews were in the studio and on tour with Graham Parker & The Rumours.
Unfortunately, almost all of the footage shot on the set has been lost over time. However, the audio tracks of Brinsley Schwarz's last performance were rescued and restored for this release by then WDR sound engineer Manfred Kaiser and remastered by Johannes Scheibenreif in his studio in Vienna (Austria).
