Description
'Actionreaction 2' is a unique fusion of abstract art and free jazz, from New York painter and designer Pippo Lionni and Italian musicians, pianist Sergio Corbini and saxophonist Stefano Franceschini.
They present 12 pieces across 2 CDs as part of their ongoing 'Actionrection' series of performances, which explore the improvisational exchange between abstract painting and sound, moving between free jazz, prog rock soundscapes and avant garde electronic music.
On the floor of the studio, Lionni uses spackle knives and rollers to paint large scale canvases. The sound of painting fuses with Corbini and Franceschini's instruments, who use Lionni's art making as the starting point and a third sound-source to interact with - the noise of the brushes and painting equipment adding a percussive element to the music. The painting therefore has both a visual and audio form, and the musical composition is at the same time influencing and being influenced by the painting.
On 'AR14' the virtuoso Italian bassist Silvia Bolognesi replaces Stefano Franceschini.
Pippo Lionni: paint brushes, spackle knife
Sergio Corbini: piano, synthesizer, electronics
Stefano Franceschini: soprano and baritone saxophone, electronics
