Debut recording from Pigfoot, in which Loose Tubes trumpeter Chris Batchelor leads a world class quartet through fresh and innovative interpretations of New Orleans classics, artfully transformed by the wide ranging filters of contemporary improvisation practice. '21st Century Acid Trad' features the endlessly creative rhythm section of pianist Liam Noble, Oren Marshall on tuba and drummer Paul Clarvis.
Taking some of the famous hits of the major figures of traditional jazz such as Louis Armstrong's "Basin St Blues", Fats Waller's "Jitterbug Waltz" and Bessie Smith's "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out", Pigfoot have re-worked the material into a unique combination of old and new, in which the originals are affectionately transformed by a deep knowledge of free improvisation, post-bop rhythmic systems and contemporary harmonic language.
