Description
This 2CD set comprises recordings drawn from three recital by pianist Piero Scarpini, dated 1953, 1961 and 1974. It is possible, once more, to listen to the way in which Scarpini was able to convey to us the modernity of classical composers, Mozart in this case.
Italian pianist Pietro Scarpini (1911-1997) was called "a pianist of prodigious capacities" by New York Times critic Olin Downes after the performance of the Prokofiev 2nd concerto. From his debut in Rome with the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia in 1936, followed immediately by his first success abroad with the Berlin Philharmonic, Scarpini continued his career performing with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam.
