  • Description

A riotous whirlwind of latino influenced horns from festival favourites Molotov Jukebox...

The world-renowned party purveyors of modern world music, Molotov Jukebox, return with their much-anticipated second album Tropical Gypsy, released via Pause For Effect Records on 15th April 2016. With all the makings of a fiesta floor filler, the eleven track offering displays a truly riotous whirlwind of latino influenced horns, accordion and violin; all tightly bound together over guitar, bass and drums by the infectious vocals of musician and actress, Natalia Tena. Incorporating newly found sounds collected first hand on a South American tour last year, the band have added flavours of samba, fohó and cumbia to their existing Balkan influences and Tropical Gypsy not only represents the birth of a new genre, but is also the perfect description of the free spirited philosophy and wanderlust that the band truly embodies.

Drumrolls herald the start of something special as opener Pineapple Girl immediately proves Molotov Jukebox have the power to instantly suck you into to their rhythmic world where carnivals, festivals and parties prevail. It's more than just a good time though, as the heavy themes of the human condition such as love, lust, regret and death are celebrated, just as they are within traditional folk culture. From a rambunctious tale of insatiable romance on lead track Just The Thrill to the lingering sadness of the accordion lament on I Cry, every end of the spectrum is lauded and whipped into something danceable. Ending on fiddle filled epic Gypsy Funeral, the album culminates in a frieze that further marks out both the combined and individual musicianship of this band, as members step in and out of solos building to in a final furore.

Famed for their ferocious performances around the globe in both English and Spanish, none of the band's undeniable live energy has been allowed to escape during recording and it was the last LP to be recorded and mastered at London's now demolished Rollover Studio, sadly lost to developers in January 2016. To celebrate the release of their astounding record, Molotov Jukebox will be taking their music on the road, playing a very special show on 5th May at London's Village Underground in London's multi-cultural melting pot, Shoreditch, as well as performing 11 other dates across the UK.

"It feels like it is only the beginning for them as they teeter on the verge of soaring popularity and stardom, which they thoroughly deserve." The Mancunion

"Molotov Jukebox are artists in the true sense of the word. They not only carefully hone their music, but the whole artistic and stylistic world that comes with the territory." Renowned For Sound

"Having formed at a music festival, it's appropriate that this six-piece – violins, accordions, vocals and rhythm – splice the various rough-and-ready sounds of the British festival season." Time Out

For fans of: Gogol Bordello, Hackney Colliery Band, Fat Freddy's Drop, The Correspondents, No Doubt, Cat Empire
